“Strong Towns Houston believes a healthy Houston is accountable to its voters and transparent about its decisions...
We deserve a city government that treats approved projects as commitments rather than suggestions.”
Dear Houston City Council,
We write to offer our support for the proposed CIP amendments: 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03.
Strong Towns Houston believes that a healthy Houston is accountable to its voters and transparent about its decisions. Since 2024, voters have seen many projects in their communities subjected to delay, cancellation, or revision without prior notice to members of Council or constituent stakeholders. This has eroded public trust and shown that we need a process which allows citizens to shape their communities and dictate how their tax dollars are spent.
These amendments are a step in the right direction. They require the Administration to provide advance notice and a vote of Council before delaying, canceling, or revising infrastructure projects that have been previously approved. While this does not undo the damage that has been done, it will help restore transparency and empower voters.
Strong Towns Houston believes we deserve a city government that treats approved projects as commitments rather than suggestions, and offers support for these amendments.
Respectfully,
Strong Towns Houston
